Alternative statement? Keep it positive!
A friend recently asked me to be an accountability partner for him in his stated goal to stay positive. I’ve thought a lot about that request and what it means to “Stay positive.” Does it mean that we present ourselves to others in a positive light, or is it much more than that?
In terms of staying positive, I believe we have to accept that our outward manifestations originate within. In order to present our positive self to others, we have to have a positive outlook. Part of the way that we do that is by accepting our own challenge to have a positive impact on each other’s lives. You’ve heard the saying “It’s better to give than to receive.” It is true that giving to another person with needs does something powerful for us. It taps into a fundamental need within each of us to provide for another human being.
By adopting a mindset of having a positive impact on others, we assume a measure of responsibility for positive outcomes in the lives of those around us. Endeavoring to create positive results for those around us makes us truly positive people, and that shows in our actions, resonates in our voices, and defines us as positive people.
So, the task of being an accountability partner in staying positive may be more than you signed on for, but the end result could impact a lot of people in meaningful ways.
Is your impact a positive one? If not, let’s get started.
